Prayer from the Gut #wickedess #rulers #lies #truth #breakthecycle #free...

A Prayer from the Gut for Equity!

Do you indeed decree righteousness, you rulers?  do you judge the peoples with equity?

No; you devise evil in your hearts, and your hands deal out violence in the land.

A righteous man is praying, and he is not pulling any punches. He is praying from the gut. He is praying from his heart. He is praying with disgust. He is praying to a righteous God. He is praying with a sense that he is aligned with the heart of God. It is a heart of righteousness. It is a heart that desires equity.

The psalmist is convinced that God's concerns are for righteousness justice equity and peace. It is to that end he prays. He prays for those things and he prays against wicked rulers.

Mordecai-God Wins #conscience #conflict #ethics #dotherightthing #alignm...

Mordecai, a Defiant Resister

There is something in us that wants to be on the winning side. There is another drive that sometimes competes. That is the desire to be rightfully aligned with God. That is, in other words, our conscience,
Alignment with God's kingdom and will is a basis for hope that we can have both realized.
However, sometimes, we must proceed without hope and with only the conviction that we are taking the stand that is right and righteous.
There have always been edicts from systems that have raised issues and choices of conscience. These edicts have been presented as nonnegotiable, and lack of compliance has come with negative consequences.
There have always been those who have resisted based upon conscience.
Mordecai, the Jew, could not and would not offer worship to a human being. Nor could he pledge his loyalty to an imposter or a pretender. This was a matter of conscience for him.
Mordecai would not kneel down or pay him honor.
So, torn between conflicting nonnegotiable demands on his loyalty, without the book even mentioning God by name, Mordecai chose to reserve his loyalty for God.
This would bring a viable threat on Mordecai's life and the life of all the Jews in Persia.
Ultimately, it would lead to a divine victory and reversal, because God always wins.

Neither True Nor Social

If it is neither, where is the juxtaposition?
Perhaps, nowhere, just a position.
If somewhere, in an imagination,
Antisocial.
Intrinsically, untruthful.
Somewhere out there, both exist,
Perhaps in the same space.

Maybe.

Seeking a Kingdom #cityofgod #kingdomofgod #loveyourneighbour #foreigner...

The City We Seek

We, like our spiritual forerunners, a foreigners and strangers in search of a city, a home, where God is present. It is there, where God is our God, no one is a stranger, it is eternal, the place we seek, a city where love is the rule.

Deuteronomy 10:17-21

We, who were foreigners and strangers are no longer outcast.

Psalm 145

It is a forever Kingdom

Hebrews 11:8-16

It is the home we seek.

Matthew 5:43-48

It is the city that is governed by the law of love.

Deuteronomy 10:17-21

A City of God Where No One Is a Stranger

For the Lord your God is God of gods and Lord of lords, the great God, mighty and awesome, who is not partial and takes no bribe, who executes justice for the orphan and the widow, and who loves the strangers, providing them food and clothing. You shall also love the stranger, for you were strangers in the land of Egypt.
You shall fear the Lord your God; him alone you shall worship; to him you shall hold fast, and by his name you shall swear. He is your praise; he is your God, who has done for you these great and awesome things that your own eyes have seen.

Psalm 145:1-9

The City of God, an Everlasting Kingdom

I will exalt you, O God my King, *
and bless your Name for ever and ever.
Every day will I bless you *
and praise your Name for ever and ever.
Great is the Lord and greatly to be praised; *
there is no end to his greatness.
One generation shall praise your works to another *
and shall declare your power.
I will ponder the glorious splendor of your majesty *
and all your marvelous works.
They shall speak of the might of your wondrous acts, *
and I will tell of your greatness.
They shall publish the remembrance of your great goodness; *
they shall sing of your righteous deeds.
The Lord is gracious and full of compassion, *
slow to anger and of great kindness.
The Lord is loving to everyone *
and his compassion is over all his works.
All your works praise you, O Lord, *
and your faithful servants bless you.
They make known the glory of your kingdom *
and speak of your power;
That the peoples may know of your power *
and the glorious splendor of your kingdom.
Your kingdom is an everlasting kingdom; *
your dominion endures throughout all ages.
The Lord is faithful in all his words *
and merciful in all his deeds.
The Lord upholds all those who fall; *
he lifts up those who are bowed down.
The eyes of all wait upon you, O Lord, *
and you give them their food in due season.
You open wide your hand *
and satisfy the needs of every living creature.
The Lord is righteous in all his ways *
and loving in all his works.
The Lord is near to those who call upon him, *
to all who call upon him faithfully.
He fulfills the desire of those who fear him; *
he hears their cry and helps them.
The Lord preserves all those who love him, *
but he destroys all the wicked.
My mouth shall speak the praise of the Lord; *
let all flesh bless his holy Name for ever and ever.

Hebrews 11:8-16

A City of Welcome that We Seek

By faith Abraham obeyed when he was called to set out for a place that he was to receive as an inheritance; and he set out, not knowing where he was going. By faith he stayed for a time in the land he had been promised, as in a foreign land, living in tents, as did Isaac and Jacob, who were heirs with him of the same promise. For he looked forward to the city that has foundations, whose architect and builder is God. By faith he received power of procreation, even though he was too old-- and Sarah herself was barren-- because he considered him faithful who had promised.
Therefore from one person, and this one as good as dead, descendants were born, "as many as the stars of heaven and as the innumerable grains of sand by the seashore." All of these died in faith without having received the promises, but from a distance they saw and greeted them.
They confessed that they were strangers and foreigners on the earth, for people who speak in this way make it clear that they are seeking a homeland. If they had been thinking of the land that they had left behind, they would have had opportunity to return. But as it is, they desire a better country, that is, a heavenly one. Therefore God is not ashamed to be called their God; indeed, he has prepared a city for them.

Matthew 5:43-48

A City of Love

“You have heard that it was said, 'You shall love your neighbor and hate your enemy.' But I say to you, Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, so that you may be children of your Father in heaven; for he makes his sun rise on the evil and on the good, and sends rain on the righteous and on the unrighteous. For if you love those who love you, what reward do you have? Do not even the tax collectors do the same? And if you greet only your brothers and sisters, what more are you doing than others? Do not even the Gentiles do the same? Be perfect, therefore, as your heavenly Father is perfect.

"Let America Be America Again" by Langston Hughes, performed by Aldo Bil...

Langston Hughes great poem should be recited every July 4th to remind us to continue to aspire to the great idea and work of freedom and opportunity for all people.

A Declaration

America was born on the edge and its edgy pioneers kept moving the edge farther and farther into the risky unknown. Safety & security were servants of greater principles of freedom, truth, justice. We would die climbing higher and higher and no force of evil has ever intimidated a real American. We're still exploring uncharted territory, looking for the edge. Let us never play it so safe that we lose our liberty.

Happy birthday, U.S.A., a grand experiment in opportunity, welcoming, growing, and working out lots of kinks that create dissonance between what we aspire to be and what we are. The key is in the becoming. We are not static. We have had some wars. Our wars have not defined us, but have, at times, refined us. We have had disagreements, inconsistencies, and contradictions, but we have an essentially righteous philosophy that has been articulated and is waiting to be fully applied. The core structure is laid so that we can work these things out.

We are a community of communities.

We are not perfect, but we are capable of fixing our imperfections. We are diverse. We are changing. We are free. We thank our thinkers and our protectors, our builders and our critics today. We join hands and sing of our common love.

Let us be one people.

Independence is an aspiration. Liberty is an seed. Freedom is an unfulfilled dream that is ever widening in scope and realization. We cannot stop, assuming all have been embraced by the tidal wave of America's ideals and potential. We cannot assume that history is the same for all of us. We can assume that what was true for some - and truly true - must be true for all if it is to have any meaning at all: That all men are created equal, that all have been endowed by God with rights that cannot be revoked such as life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. It is furthermore true, that, as the fathers wrote, the only legitimate government is that which secures and continues to secure these rights for all.

Let us remember, this day, our earliest settlers and inhabitants in this land, at whose grave cost, we occupied it. Let us embrace them as heirs of that same liberty we celebrate.

Let us be thankful for all who have worn the uniform of our services, even in those conflicts that were unpopular or even misguided. They started no wars. They served without question and at great cost. And because they we a-political in this service, they helped to preserve the independent exercise and separation of powers that keep us from becoming a military dictatorship.

"Now, I say to you today my friends, even though we face the difficulties of today and tomorrow, I still have a dream. It is a dream deeply rooted in the American dream. I have a dream that one day this nation will rise up and live out the true meaning of its creed: - 'We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal."  - Martin Luther King Jr.
